  • June 3, 2020 results:  1.89 Kappa Lambda ratio (better! )  glucose 97

         I added Pancreas pills (a proteolytic enzyme – replacing Wobenzyme) – on empty stomach when first wake up & in afternoon& some mushroom extracts (2 Beta glucan, Benegene, Peak Immune, AHCC). Still  do very low carb & intermittent fasting

  • Sept 1, 2020  results: 1.44 (WOW!!!  Significant improvement!!) Kappa/ Lambda ratio  glucose 91. % of kidneys that are functional 56.6%

       These numbers were really surprising!  My numbers are back in normal range!  Is it the Pancreas or the mushroom extracts?  Not sure so I will keep both.  Take 2 pancreas in night when I get up to go to the bathroom and 2 on empty stomach in morning.

  • Nov 27, 2020 results : 1.85 Kappa/lambda ratio – little higher, but still pretty awesome! % of kidneys that are functional 49.4%

Feb 2022 & Sept 2022 – my numbers are stable – the kappa/lambda ratio is close to normal and kidneys are about 50%.  In Feb my oncologist said he only has one Multiple Myeloma patient who has lived as long and he takes pretty high doses of prescription drugs.  I take no prescriptions at all.  My blood pressure is 120/80.  Aug 8 2022 my oncologist said, “MM is supposed to be incurable but your are stable – just keep following your keto diet.”.

March 30, 2023 I had a Wyoming Health Fair blood draw – this is the first time since 3/27/2012 I had this particular blood test – 12 years ago when I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

Here are my steps to get back into consistent very low blood glucose and ketosis:  If this looks overwhelming, you may not need to do all of what I do.  My first nephrologist believed I have diabetes – which can have an autoimmune aspect – Diabetic’s pancreas do not control insulin and glucose as well as normal people so diabetics need to help the body by cutting down on carbohydrates so less insulin is needed.

  • I got a blood test with A1c, Uric Acid, C reactive protein, cholesterol, thyroid, etc.
  • My heart and kidney numbers looked MUCH better, Vit D is great, I have COVID antibodies (hurray!) The single thing that surprised me was that my A1c was 5.4!!! (I expected lower)
  • I started back on the Cronometer app – which is a free app that is very accurate in counting carbs, and I got familiar with how to use it again. 
  • I started entering everything I ate in cronometer. For example I entered all my food and supplements in on the first day and then the following day I click “copy previous day” and then delete things I didn’t eat the 2nd day.
  • I started to eat just 20 total carbs per day (not deducting fiber) I aim for 75% fat – I have her “treat” daily right now: made of  1 packet of Sweetleaf Stevia + ¼ avocado + 1/4c heavy cream + ¼ c the solid part of a can of coconut cream + 1-2 tsp cacao mashed together. Delicious 🙂
  • At the end of each day I would jot down what had the most carbs and what was most satisfying – which foods were “the most bang for the buck”-and cut out the foods I was eating that were too high in carbs. Feedback! That is the secret to success for me.
  • I got a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) –which required a prescription. The CGM shows in real time my blood glucose. I can check my blood glucose when I wake, before each meal, 2 hours after each meal and before bed.
  • I ordered a new Ketone & Glucose Monitor by “Keto Mojo“.  I do the finger stick once a day before bed to monitor ketones and glucose reading to re calibrate my Continuous Glucose Monitor. (Ketone strips are several dollars each, so I just do one finger prick before bed to get ketones and write it on my calendar. Glucose strips are less expensive.)
  • Goals: try to get blood glucose in 72-90 range. Want spikes after a meal to be less than 110 and try to have average glucose under 100. If you are sick, your glucose will go up just as your temperature goes up. Also, if you are stressed or get into an argument or exercise strenuously, your blood glucose will go up.
  • TIPS ON CGM: there are 3 parts to my Dexcon 6 1. sensor – replace every 10 days and you put the transmitter in this every time. 2. Transmitter – lasts several months 3. Monitor that I carry with me and lasts for a year. When you put in a new sensor, try to put it on mid afternoon and do not eat for a couple of hours afterwards so it can stabilize. The first 24 hours it can be inaccurate – so when you prick your finger that is blood sugar, the CGM has a fine filament that measures glucose in your fat of your abdomen or back of the arm. the CGM can be 15 min behind the reading in the blood. I calibrate mine with the finger stick blood strip only occasionally.
  • I cleaned out my cabinets- I threw away all foods that were high in carbs except those that my husband eats and are not a temptation to me. I quit low sodium V-8, all sugar free chocolate, all alcohol. I kept some 90% Lindt dark chocolate because it does not have many carbs.
  • I am reading “Any Way you Can” and I am also taking her online course and learning a lot! Rather than the Glucose Ketone Index (GKI), she just has you divide Glucose by Ketones- she calls that the “Dr Boz Ratio” and it is one step simpler than doing the GKI. The big benefit of that is you have ONE number to evaluate & track how you are doing. If a person is just trying to lose weight, they aim for a Dr Boz ratio of 80 several days per week. Those with Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Epilepsy etc need to aim for a Dr Boz ratio of 20-40.
  • I have taken Epsom salt baths several times per week for magnesium
  • I went a couple of weeks having 1 T chia seeds every day (you just chew them up and drink water) Milk of Magnesia also keeps me from getting constipated and I have a small sip of Milk of Magnesia and sip of water if I get leg cramps in the middle of the night.
  • My A1c was 5.4 3/30 and still 5.3 on 5/30 and still 5.3 on 8/8/23. I am trying to note my CGM after I eat. I read of one study where they had 800 people take around 300 blood glucose readings per day for a week about every 5 minutes They found people are variable in what causes their blood to spike.
  • My cancer ratio was 1.6 – in the “normal” range – hurray!

My kappa/lambda ratio was 1.7 on Feb 1, 2024. Slightly above 1.65 but not a trend. My WBC were lower than usual (2.9) so I will have my next blood test in May to keep an eye on this.
